Ceviche Recipe: Cheap, Healthy and Ready in 10 Minutes
Ceviche is a South American dish that’s healthy and refreshing. What makes the dish interesting is that the fish isn’t cooked with heat, but instead is “cooked” using the citric acid from lemon or lime juice.
This ceviche recipe is cheap, healthy and ready in just 10 minutes.
Ceviche recipe
Ingredients
Serves: 1
- 200g sea bass (approx. 2 fillets)
- 1 onion
- 1 fresh chilli
- A small handful of fresh herbs, like coriander or mint.
- 1 garlic clove
- 2 lemons or limes
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Black pepper
- Salt
Directions
- Remove the skin from the sea bass and dice it into bite-size chunks.
- Slice the onion thinly.
- Chop the herbs roughly.
- Add the sea bass to a bowl, throw in the slice onion, herbs, a dash of extra virgin olive oil, the garlic minced on a Microplane (or diced with a knife), and the juice of the lemons or limes.
- Leave the mixture to marinate for 5 to 10 minutes. Stir the mixture gently every few minutes while marinating to ensure even distribution of flavours.
- Season the ceviche to taste with salt and pepper.
- Serve the ceviche immediately. It’s important to note that if you leave the ceviche to marinate for too long, the acid from the lemon or lime juice will continue to “cook” the fish, making it firmer and potentially chalky. Therefore, it’s best to consume the ceviche within 15 minutes of preparing it.
